Moving and sorting salmon often involves wellboats, specialist equipment and coordinated crews. These operations can interrupt feeding, affect production schedules and put fish under stress.

At the same time, fish in the same pen grow at different rates. Being able to select which fish are moved or harvested could give farmers greater flexibility in managing their production. Making this practical, reliable and economically worthwhile is the challenge we are working on.

At Apotrox, we develop hardware and software for automated fish handling and sorting. Our aim is to connect information about individual fish with the physical ability to sort and move them, giving farmers more control over how they manage their stock.

We are exploring how fish collection, sorting and transport can work together within existing farm infrastructure. Through prototype testing and input from farmers, we identify where existing equipment can do the job and where new components are needed.
